Electronic System for Travel Authorization
The ESTA is required for travelers from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries visiting the US for tourism, business, or transit for up to 90 days. While Jamaican passport holders are NOT eligible (they need a full B1/B2 visa), dual citizens with eligible passports (e.g., UK, most EU countries) can apply.
Who Needs It
Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries (39 countries including UK, most EU nations, Japan, Australia). Jamaican and Cayman BOTC passport holders are NOT eligible and need a standard US visa.
Validity
2 years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first). Multiple entries allowed, up to 90 days per visit.

Canada eTA
Electronic Travel Authorization
The eTA is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. Like the ESTA, standard Jamaican passport holders need a full visa, but dual citizens with eligible passports (e.g., UK, most EU passports) or certain Cayman Islands residents may qualify.
Who Needs It
Citizens of visa-exempt countries flying to Canada. British citizens (including some BOTC holders) and most EU passport holders are eligible. Jamaican passport holders typically need a full visitor visa instead.
Validity
5 years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first). Multiple entries allowed, up to 6 months per visit.

UK ETA
Electronic Travel Authorisation
The UK ETA is a new requirement for nationals who do not need a visa for short stays in the UK but must now obtain electronic authorization before traveling. This applies to an expanding list of nationalities. Jamaican passport holders need a full Standard Visitor Visa, but dual citizens with eligible passports may need an ETA.
Who Needs It
Non-visa nationals visiting the UK for up to 6 months. The scheme is being rolled out in phases to different nationalities. Check your eligibility based on your passport.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Jamaican passport holders need an ESTA, eTA, or ETA?
Jamaican passport holders are generally NOT eligible for these electronic travel authorizations. They typically need full visas for the US, UK, and Canada. However, if you hold dual citizenship with an eligible country (e.g., UK, EU), you may use your other passport to apply for these programs.
What happens if my ESTA, eTA, or ETA is denied?

Can I work in a country with an ESTA, eTA, or ETA?
