How to Renew Your Jamaican Passport in 2026: Online and In-Person

Your Jamaican passport is the foundation of all international travel. Whether you need to renew because it is expiring, you have run out of blank pages, or your personal details have changed, understanding the renewal process will save you time and stress. In 2026, Jamaicans have two options: applying online through PICA or visiting a PICA office in person.

When to Renew Your Jamaican Passport

You should start the renewal process if:

  • Your passport expires within 9 months (most countries require 6 months of validity beyond your travel dates)
  • You have fewer than 2 blank visa pages
  • Your passport is damaged (water damage, torn pages, broken cover)
  • Your name has changed (marriage, deed poll)
  • You need to apply for a visa and your passport will expire before the visa would

Option 1: Online Renewal Through PICA

The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) now offers an online renewal service. Here is how it works:

  1. Visit the PICA website at www.pica.gov.jm
  2. Create an account or log in to your existing account
  3. Select "Passport Renewal" and fill out the application form
  4. Upload a recent digital passport photo (must meet ICAO standards)
  5. Pay the fee online via credit or debit card
  6. Submit your application
  7. Mail in or drop off your current passport at a PICA office
  8. Receive your new passport by courier or collect from a PICA office

Important: Even with online applications, you must still submit your physical current passport. The online process reduces wait times at PICA offices but does not eliminate the need for physical document submission.

Option 2: In-Person Renewal at a PICA Office

You can visit a PICA office in person to submit your renewal application. PICA offices are located in:

  • Kingston: 25C Constant Spring Road (head office)
  • Montego Bay: 19 Church Street
  • Mandeville: 4 Caledonia Road
  • May Pen: 11 Manchester Avenue
  • Black River: 15 High Street

Walk-in service is available, but appointment booking through the PICA website is recommended to reduce wait times.

Required Documents

  • Current passport (even if expired)
  • Completed application form (online or physical)
  • Two passport-sized photographs (35mm x 45mm, white background, taken within 6 months)
  • Birth certificate (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of name change (if applicable — marriage certificate or deed poll)
  • National ID or valid government-issued ID

Fees for 2026

Service Fee (JMD)
Standard Adult Renewal$7,500
Child Renewal (under 18)$5,000
Expedited Processing (additional)$10,000
48-Hour Express (additional)$20,000

Fees are subject to change. Check the PICA website for the most current pricing.

Processing Times

  • Standard processing: 4-6 weeks
  • Expedited processing: 2-3 weeks
  • 48-Hour Express: 2 business days (subject to availability)

Processing times can be longer during peak periods, especially before summer holidays and the Christmas season. Apply well in advance of any planned travel.

Renewing from Overseas

Jamaicans living abroad can renew their passports through Jamaican embassies, consulates, and honorary consulates. The process is similar but processing times are typically longer — often 8-12 weeks. Key locations:

  • USA: Jamaican Embassy in Washington, D.C., or consulates in New York, Miami
  • UK: Jamaican High Commission in London
  • Canada: Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa, consulate in Toronto
  • Cayman Islands: Jamaican Honorary Consulate in George Town

Tips for a Smooth Renewal

  • Start early: Do not wait until your passport is about to expire
  • Check your photo: Rejected photos are the number one cause of delays
  • Keep copies: Photocopy your current passport data page before submitting it
  • Track your application: Use the PICA website to check status online
  • Coordinate with visa applications: If you also need a visa, factor in passport processing time. You cannot apply for a visa without a valid passport
